Pymmes Park Pond: A Monumental Moment for Community Action

Today (1st July 2025) was truly special. After weeks of calls, coordination, and countless hoops jumped through – the historic pond at Pymmes Park finally received the water it so desperately needed. And it was incredible to witness the ecosystem come back to life right before our eyes.

  • Fish were seen swimming out of side drains, rescued and guided to deeper water pockets by the amazing fire brigade team.
  • Birds landed, tadpoles stirred, and ducklings reunited with their mums in the reeds.

This was not just a rescue — it was a moment of hope and heart, powered by sheer community determination.

  • A heartfelt thank you to:
    • Edmonton Fire Brigade, who first tried last week despite limited access to park plans
    • The Enfield Fire Crew, who came back today and made the water flow
    • Sumishta from Friends of Pymmes Park, who has been a tireless force behind this effort, you are a true community hero
  • This action shows the incredible power of people working together, and the vital role that Friends of the Park groups play in preserving our green spaces across the borough.

This isn’t a full fix, it’s a sticking plaster. But thanks to community comments and finally getting through to the right person at Enfield Council, we’ve now learned there is a borehole and pump system that once fed the park.

If the council follows through and restores this, we could have a sustainable solution to prevent this kind of crisis in future.

Let’s keep working together for our parks, our wildlife, and our community.
