Employer Engagement Adviser

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: This post is instrumental in the on-going functioning of Enfield’s Supported Internship Programme (SIP) - a Government initiative designed to help more people with a disability or learning difficulty to move from education and training into employment) and West Lea’s extensive work experience (WEX) programmes. The post holder will report directly to the Independence, Business and Partnerships Manager and ensure that West Lea School continues to implement and review the Employer Engagement Strategy and associated action plan so as to; PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES •Maximise employment opportunities for young people aged 16-24 with Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities in Enfield. •Facilitates work experience opportunities that enable students to develop their work skills. The post holder will identify and secure partnerships with employers which match the skills, experience and aspirations of the Interns. They will develop and broker effective working relationships between the school and employers in order to secure paid employment for interns and valuable work experience for students. Duties will include carrying out employer recruitment, health & safety vetting, conducting risk assessments, monitoring progression and ensuring a quality experience for all. EMPLOYER RELATIONS •To be responsible for the oversight, delivery, review, evaluation and communication of the Employer Engagement Strategy and associated action plan. •To investigate all sources of local job opportunities in line with local labour market information. •To actively engage new employers securing work placements for Interns, work experience for students from KS4 and above and employer encounters for students across the school. •Develop and maintain excellent relationships with employers by learning about their business, recruitment practices and criteria over multiple visits. •To support local employers to create accessible and inclusive workplaces and to understand their requirements to implement reasonable adjustments. •Offer ongoing support to employers engaged in the programme in order to provide job sustainability. •To represent the school and the local authority at various stakeholder meetings/ networking and engagement events. •To oversee the ongoing development and delivery of our Disability Awareness Training package to local employers •To work with the Preparing for Adulthood co-ordinator to leverage other opportunities for students across the board linked to the wider curriculum, careers programme and Enterprise in Action, such as training and development opportunities, meet and greets, activity days, guest speakers etc. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: • To line manage the Independent Travel Trainer/Work Experience Job Coaches, ensuring that students on WEX get high quality support. • To support the Independence, Business and Partnerships Manager to ensure the effective delivery of the Supported Internship. • To be a point of contact for parents of Interns as well as students on WEX. • To be a point of contact for class teams, DSL and Medical staff with regards to SIP and WEX. • To liaise with Enfield Special Schools around work experience opportunities for pupils aged 14-19 with SEND. • To work collaboratively with Job Coaches and wider team to accurately understand the needs of interns in order to identify and match them to appropriate employers and vacancies. • To oversee the matching of interns to work placements using in depth vocational profiling. • To actively support Interns to achieve their employment goals, in partnership with the Job Coaches. • To maintain accurate case notes and other employment related records. • To work towards project targets covering job outcomes, sustainment and employer engagement. • To assist Interns and Job Coaches to job search, complete application forms, CVs/ cover letters and prepare and practice for interviews. • To assist Interns and Job Coaches to access appropriate courses and training if required to meet employment goals. • To support Interns and Job Coaches prior to or when in work by providing access to advice on Permitted working, better off calculations, budgeting, and Working Tax Credits. • To support Job Coaches in mediating in cases where there may be conflict between the employer and Intern. • To work collaboratively with Job Coaches in order to support job retention for graduate interns. • To support Interns and employers to understand the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 in relation to employment rights. • To actively participate in team meetings, individual supervision, case discussions, training and performance appraisals. • To keep abreast of principles and practices of Supported Employment. • To manage own calendar and submit on a pre-weekly basis to Supervisor. • To work with key stakeholders including the DWP and job brokerage agencies. RAISE AWARENESS • To actively promote the Supported Internship Programme, to agencies and partners, including delivering presentations, holding information events and stalls and attending relevant meetings. • To develop the marketing strategy for the Supported Internship Programme and take a lead role in the marketing of the Supported Internship Programme to a variety of stakeholders (including coordinating the production of key promotional material). • To communicate with specialist services where necessary and lobby support to remove barriers to employment for people with additional needs. • To act as a resource to other members of the multi-disciplinary team by providing advice and information on employer engagement. • Work in partnership with appropriate external agencies including JCP and Council services. OTHER GENERAL DUTIES: • To undertake Staff Development/CPD Training as required by the nature of this post and the range of duties described within this job description. •To use IT as designated appropriate to the nature of the role. •To be aware of the responsibilities under the provision of the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) and ensure placements meet necessary regulations. •Responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young learners. •To carry out other duties of a similar nature from time to time as may be required by the senior leadership team. •The key tasks listed above are only an indication of the main tasks required to be performed.
