Summary of role: Focus of the role is to provide work related support to individuals who are in employment in the local community in order to help them to maintain and sustain their job. You will provide support to young people with a disability by helping them learn to perform the job accurately, efficiently and safely. To receive a job application form, email [email protected] JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible to: Learning for Life Operations Manager Line Manager: Senior Job Coach (West Lea School) MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The primary focus of the role is to provide work related support to individuals who are in employment in the local community in order to help them to maintain and sustain their job. You will provide support to young people with a disability by helping them learn to perform the job accurately, efficiently and safely. You will also broker an effective working relationship between the individual and employer in order to ensure the successful sustained employment for the individual. Individuals are graduates from the West Lea School Support Internship Programme which is a Government sponsored project to help more people with a disability or learning difficulty to move from education and training into employment. All employer are partners of West Lea School. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: • Engage with employers to ensure that they feel supported and confident in being able to support their colleagues with disabilities. • To be able to identify opportunities for further job carving and negotiate Job descriptions that meet employer needs and match to the skills and abilities of interns. • To facilitate a person centred approach and tailor an individual package for support the individual. • To provide an appropriate level of support, advice and guidance in the work place. • Implement support plans and set appropriate tasks, which will enable the graduate interns to become competent in work and in related skills whilst ensuring their needs are met. • To feedback accurate records of job coaching/ support provided. • Provide on-the-job training in work settings and empower the young person. • Facilitate other workers to become confident in working with and supporting graduate interns to carry out their duties and model appropriate techniques. • To facilitate regular communication to help ensure the needs of both the intern and business are being met. • Agree next steps with the employer including any application and interview processes and support the intern through this process. • Identify when we need to liaise with family members and external agencies/professionals as necessary in order to problem solve and overcome any barriers to employment or training. GENERAL DUTIES: • To undertake Staff Development/CPD Training as required by the nature of this post and the range of duties described within this job description • To use IT as designated appropriate to the nature of the role • To be aware of the responsibilities under the provision of the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) in terms of your own safety and the effects of your own actions on colleagues, students and visitors • Responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young learners. • To carry out other duties of a similar nature from time to time as may be required • The key tasks listed above are only an indication of the main tasks required to be performed.
